Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani’s commentary on al-Fawatih al-Ilahiyat wa al-Mafatih al-Ghaibiyat al-Muwaddihat lil al-Kalim al-Qur’aniyah wal al-Hikam al-Furqaniyah contains a discussion on the intellectual discipline used by Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani in interpreting the Quran al-Karim based on Tawhid and Tasawwuf (mysticism) as the basic methodology in the interpretation of al-Qur’an or better known as Tafsir al-Ishari. According to the opinion of tasawwuf experts, the application of tawhid is known as Tawhid al-Shuhudi. The theory of Tawhid al-Shuhudi is divided into four understanding of one ‘s proximity to the divine nature there is first, Tawhid al-Af ‘al, second, Tawhid al-Asma’, third, Tawhid al-Sifat and four, Tawhid al-Dzat. This Shuhudi Tawhid is higher than Istidlali Tawhid (the monotheistic theory that only holds on the logic proofs base on syariah explanation without experience) because at this stage theoretical conviction (‘ilm al-Yakin) has changed into the belief in practise of Mushahadah (pure heart observation to God without veil) to achieve al-‘Ain al-Yakin and Haq al-Yakin. This type of tawhid is also mention as combination of tawhid and tasawwuf discipline that applies the theory of tawhid in the course of tasawwuf which is applied on the interpretation of al-Jilani. This study applies qualitative methodology based on the content analysis of library research. This study also explains the application of Tawhid al-Shuhudi in the interpretation of the verses of al-Qur’an to find the implied meaning of the philosophical Tawhid revealed in the human soul through Ahwal (spiritual experiences) and Maqamat (spiritual stations). From that point of views, the existence of the core consciousness in life, the foundation of existence and the infinite in the purpose of human creation through the understanding of the Qur’an will be achive through the understanding of Tafsir al-Ishari.
